Deschutes Route Feasibility Affects Central Oregon Rail Plans
A Great Southern survey party led by F S Gordon explores a Willow Creek Deschutes route through Crook County wheat lands toward Bend and California. Promoters claim easy grades and high potential, possibly rivaling Harriman and Shasta routes, as debates about ultimate ownership and impact unfold. Laidlaw Chronicle notes N P Paulsen of Madras sought $1400 for relinquishment on his homestead.

Engineer Chief Gordon Reports Deschutes Rail Route Limit
F. Gordon, chief of the Great Southern engineers surveying the Deschutes area, says no road will follow the Deschutes beyond Willow Creek due to heavy work above that point. He notes rail construction would be prohibitive beyond Willow Creek. Local youths take advantage of fresh snow to coast on a hill south of town.
