The Indianapolis News quotes a Georgia incident to argue the South remains focused on its material interests. It says the ruling class would dismiss Northern hostility as childish, expecting the Macon event to anger the North but not deter economic progress in the South.
The Evaneville Courier denounces its Madison neighbor the R. A. R. Courier for publishing partisan falsehoods accusing Jeff Davis of leading the South for President. It condemns the editor as sympathy with mob law and partisan rancor, urging Jefferson County readers to reject such invective.
