Plans for Venetian Casino and Pier at World’s Exposition

A Chicago World’s Fair feature, the Casino and Pier The Castine, rises 200 feet from shore to mimic Venice. Burling & Whitehouse designed a nine pavilion structure on piles, connected by bridges with gondolas. A central pavilion tops a 150 foot tower, surrounded by water and 50 foot freestanding groves. The pier links to shore via a broad promenade, with thirteen columns by Saint-Gaudens honoring the original thirteen states. The building uses wood frame and staff walls, and floats support some underwater displays. Also notes Ely’s Cream Balm testimonials and local ad for Champlain’s Pain Balm care.
