Albany July 3 The poet John G Saxe faced a long cascade of family misfortunes from 1874 through 1880 including the deaths of daughters Laura aged 17 Sarah 29 wife Sophia 34 daughter Harriet 27 and daughter-in-law in Albany before the poet’s son John T Saxe was found dead at his home from a pulmonary hemorrhage. Charles G Saxe, the surviving son, describes his father’s shattered nerves and melancholic state as the nation sympathizes with the family in their distress.
