Buffaloes and Telegraph Poles Cause Scratching Craze
Buffaloes on the overland line delight in scratching against telegraph poles using brad awls after the rods were driven in to slow rubbing. The plan backfired as the animals fought over the improvised gear, toppled poles, and chewed through wires. Also noted are Brigham Young’s twenty wives traveling from Council Bluffs toward Washington with Salt Lake City stopovers to visit the Prophet.
