A late report outlines possible Route 1 improvements along the west side near Macomb city limits with bids expected May 15. The plan includes grading and surfacing over a five mile stretch adjoining the McDon area, with State Department involvement and anticipated employment effects depending on weather and contract awards.
Springfield Illinois October 28 more than a hundred miles of bond issue road in ten counties and ten and one half miles of grading in two counties with four bridges were advertised for bids to be opened November 15 Fourteen miles of the state bond issue route 31 Adams county were offered Grading work will be done on five miles on route 3 in McDonough county The grading work on the hard road north out of Macomb involves fills and straightening to allow concrete surfacing sooner
Eight daughters of the late Eli Holler of Bardolph bought the majority of the Holler estate at public sale led by Master in Chancery Wallace A. Walker. The partition sale raised $72,167.50 with multiple parcels including 80 acres near Bardolph and 160 acres at $207 per acre, all going to the Holler heirs headed by Mrs. Tamzin Holler and other named purchasers.
Mc Donough County Bankers Association held its quarterly gathering in the Union National Bank public chambers despite bad weather. Attendees from Bushnell Industry and Prairie City joined local members to discuss currency uniformity and closer ties. Biographical note: BE. L. Robert Bainter two years old, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Bainter of West Piper street, suffered facial wounds from a rooster during play near the Simpson yard. The spur pierced his cheek and chin requiring stitches, with two more on the chin puncture. Mother’s timely intervention stopped further harm. doctors report condition hopeful barring infection. The father is a Prudential Insurance Co representative.
The Colchester high school football game with the Macomb Boys Band team at Normal Field was postponed because the visitors were not in condition to play. The game will be played next Tuesday at 3 30 p m with an admission of 35 cents. Both teams weigh about 140 pounds per man and are expected to provide a fast, evenly matched contest.

The United States Railroad Labor Board declared no strike actions may occur without board permission. It warned strikers who violate orders become outlaws and forfeited existing protections under the transportation act, signaling the end of the threatened nationwide walkout.
