A bitter quarrel at Colchester Unity High School splits the community as students and staff face ongoing tensions. Parents demand clarity on leadership and safety measures while administrators seek a path to reconciliation.
Debate on establishing a community high school in Colchester continues on the eve of a December 2 vote. Proponents cite city support and funds raised. opponents warn against burdens on taxpayers and question the school’s necessity given current finances.
The McDonough County Poultry Association prepares a major show to open January 10 at the Levin building on North Lafayette and run through January 15. Entries include Alex Edie with Butt Orpingtons and pullets that won in Quincy, facing competitors from Galesburg Springfield Jacksonville and Missouri Iowa. Judge Mr. Johnson, a top poultry official, also serves as official at the event.
Mrs. Matilda Bowen led eight weeks of home hygiene and sick care courses in Bardolph Macomb Scotland and Emmet townships with 95 enrolled. 12 of 15 meetings needed to qualify for a certificate. Additional sessions finish in West Bethel East Bethel Industry Colchester Tennessee Good Hope and possibly Macomb.

Members will open with singles, then doubles, then a team from the association to play peers from Colchester Bushnell and nearby clubs. Also Burns Bible class hosts Presbyterian men for talk by Dr Ezra A Van Nuys of Chicago at Mackom First church December 7 at 7 30 with social hour and refreshments.
Wendell Hager son of Mr and Mrs Fred Hager near Bardolph was injured when the Ford car he rode on the runboard overturned near East Pierce street. A wheel passed over his chest fracturing two ribs and leaving him with bruises. He received medical care and was later said to be up and about at home with no internal injuries detected.
Mr and Mrs Cecil Belshaw of W Murray Street welcome a six pound premature girl born this morning. The infant is very weak and it is not believed she can survive.

Captain George W. Reid a Civil War veteran and longtime civic official died at Marietta Phelps hospital at 5:25 PM Saturday. He was 83 and had suffered a yearlong illness from cancer. Funeral services will be Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church with G. A. R. rites. Interment is in Oakwood Cemetery.
