Thomas Catherwood admitted to strangling his sister in law Betty Sharples after the 65 dollar bank book was found partly burned. Police say robbery motive. hair and a five foot cord tied to the suspect. Sharples cared for two children as poverty strained the family. Catherwood claimed a plan to steal the money during a visit to the Sharples home.
The Sorter residence at 729 East Calhoun Street was entered between 3 and 4 pm Tuesday as the family was away. Loot included $10 to $15 cash, a porcelain Co check for about $9, two gold watches, a bracelet, earrings, and a ring. Edith Mason and her sister, roomers, reported the theft. police seek suspects and advised banks and jewelers to watch for stolen items.
Two men were shot in six days by Chicago Railway Mail Service guards while riding baggage cars. One was shot at Sioux City Iowa the other at Girard Illinois. neither injured severely. Guards say the men ignored warnings to stay off the cars.

O E Portlock driver of the ice wagon on South College street was thrown beneath the wheels as he climbed aboard at the rear of the Trinoy cafe. He suffered a bad knee injury with swelling. Dr. Russell treated him and he was taken to Holmes hospital before being sent home.
Bardolph high school basketball beat Astoria 22 to 12 as Smith Hager Sensjay forwards joined Litchfield Potts in a fast contest. A strong crowd attended and Bardolph will host Bushnell on December 2.
William Goldstein a 25 year old farmer of two miles southwest of Carthage was accidentally shot through the heart while hunting on Sunday. A coroner jury ruled the death accidental noting his body was found beside a discharged gun in a hedge fence. Funeral from Trinity Lutheran church Wednesday at 2 pm. Post office hours shortened for Thanksgiving with desk delivery for 9 to 9:30 am. Rural carriers not required to work on holidays except Christmas. Signed James M Pace P M.
Rev. F. M. Brane now of Shelbyville MO notes women can work and gossip at once. A farmer donated corn for the church task where the women husked it while Brane supervised and joked about the lively pace and chatter.

J Vacha of Peoria, a WWI runner for the 314 Machine Gun Company, continues a three year search for the mother of an American infantry lieutenant killed in France. The dying soldier entrusted his home address and diary to be delivered, but no identification remained. Vacha appeals to ex service groups and the War Department for help in locating the mother so the diary and message can reach her.
