A British British Premier discusses far reaching disarmament policy as Japan signals cautious reception. Reports from Washington and London describe tension over ship limits and the viability of proposed global arms restraint amid Allied diplomacy.
Principal Freshwater announced the Elgin high school will host a Thanksgiving Day football game against Elgin rivals. The kickoff is planned for 10 30 in the morning to allow players to enjoy Thanksgiving turkey. Pittsfield agrees to a Dec 2 home game. Gridley’s Dec 3 request cannot be accommodated.
A thief smashed the plate glass display at A. C. Deharity store about 10 PM and grabbed a $60 Peco seal plush coat with a heavy Martin collar, leaving other items undisturbed. The window glass, valued over $100, will be replaced. no witnesses. Dorothy Hale turns ten yesterday.
Depositors in Bardolph generally favor a proposed settlement of the bank's affairs developed after joint conferences with attorneys and Olson, the Union National Bank officer named temporary receiver. About 136 depositors signed yesterday, with more expected. plan aims to avert criminal prosecutions and restore a backed reorganization with new securities bearing 7 percent interest, covering half liabilities and the rest through Olson’s new securities. State police funding and public costs are also debated by H L Miller on a separate political platform.
Mrs George Price and daughter Mary Ellen left for Canton to spend the winter. Her brother in law Homer Price accompanies them. Mary Ellen has had heart trouble for 17 weeks. Newman Stocker A J Dark Kate Murphy G F Krenter and Mrs Wm Kline and Mrs Thos Doak depart for Biloxi to spend the winter. An ambulance arrived to be used with a new hospital order.
According to the By Stander's Springfield correspondent more than 250 bids for grading and construction of state hard roads north of Macomb were filed with the department of public works. Officials read the bids and gave no official details. Examinations will continue today with awards expected tomorrow if any.
A chimney spark at FM Neylon on South Randolph street started a fire about 7 45 this morning. It burned a hole eight feet in diameter in the roof. plastering may be damaged by water. Insurance covers the loss. Fire crew arrived after some confusion over location. Frank Neylon Jr. helped by spraying with a garden hose before the department arrived.
John F. Menke promoted to general manager of a large cereal products company, succeeding John E. Linihan. Menke previously managed the Petersburg plant and now oversees the whole business. Local friends praise his deserving rise. Also notes the Jolly dance hall season opening with Majestic Cardinals and Ernie's College Orchestra events. A Crosby Texas couple, Adolph and Mrs. Peterson, welcomed a son born yesterday at Phelps hospital.
The five nations' spokesmen endorsed the American proposals for limitation of armament in spirit and principle with reservations on details. Arthur Balfour, Kato, Schanzer, and Briand praised the plan as Secretary Hughes announced the committee’s unanimous adoption of the Big Five program.
Charles C. Munday former vice president of La Salle Trust and Savings Bank was released from Joliet state prison after parole papers arrived. He boarded a train at 6 20 this morning and went home. He had been imprisoned for eleven months with nineteen months remaining on sentence.
