Engers, maddened by exposure, leaps over the board to death in a dramatic incident. The event follows a dangerous flight during which a pilot allegedly lied about conditions and faced severe consequences.
Published accounts say two passengers died and six survived as the Florida bound flyer Miami sank after a broken propeller. Robert Moore and August Bulte aided by crewmen clung to wreckage until dawn while the Wm. Greer crew plucked survivors and a pilot from the sea.
A Georgia report describes a 14 year old boy identified as Arthur Wall who died from a self inflicted gunshot after being chastised by a teacher. Authorities say the incident occurred yesterday as the boy left a note about his desire to continue school.
Teachers from Macomb High School departed for their homes across several states for a week’s mid-spring vacation. The move follows a school board decision last month to declare a one week break to boost student outcomes.
Washington voters saw a 67 to 27 senate vote to ratify the Four Power Pacific treaty after a day of roll calls and limited debate. Thirteen Democrats supported the pact, four Republicans opposed it, with amendments by Robinson and Walsh debated but not adopted. A wireless message from a passing ship said pilot Robert Moore of the flying boat Miss Miami was picked up at sea and the five passengers had drowned. The Miss Miami departed Miami for Bimini Wednesday and two days of searching found no trace of the boat or its occupants.
A State experiment station and University report from Urbana shows Illinois farms average 106 chickens per unit on the farm. The release highlights the hens total across the state and notes data collected for the period ending late in the year.
McDonough county assessors from townships will gather with County Treasurer John A. Barclay on March 29 at 1 o clock. They will review assessment schedules and fix rates for livestock and other property. County Clerk John G. Norton has received the dog license tax to be distributed to assessors collecting the dog tax.
Miss Tetentitan of Gules Nae has finished training at Holmes hospital in this city. She remains on duty as other S class members are expected to complete training in June.
Governor Sinal will address road hearings in Canton and Kankakee next week with preliminary talks on Route 41 from Prairie City to Galesburg and Route 9 from Canton to Hamilton. A subsequent hearing on Route 9 from Peoria to Canton will be led by Highway Superintendent Frank Sheets.
Miss Daisy Hall of 416 East Washington Street in this city has regained the use of her feet and limbs after being an invalid for many years. She recently returned from Chicago where she was treated by Dr. Porter, an noted orthopedic physician, and her improvement appears to continue with time.
A mine explosion at the Colorado Fuel and Iron Co. near Trinidad Colorado yesterday afternoon left multiple men dead and eight more missing. Nine bodies have been recovered and identified while the cause remains under investigation.
Leaders in the nationwide coal strike plan to mobilize 200,000 nonunion miners starting April 1 with broad union backing. Calls for action to recruit nonunion workers will go out in several states next week as the general policy committee finalizes its plan. Illinois leader Frank Farrington questioned its long term viability but supported the policy, warning unions would contract with operators if the strike falters.
Chief Purdum led a morning roundup of five itinerants described as hard lookers and bum visitors. One alleged to have caused complaints was jailed at the city lockup after a farewell in the freight yards. Local officers pledge vigilance to keep Macomb free of their influence.

Springfield authorities report a man from Minneapolis died after a vicious assault on a busy business district corner. James W. Ogden died after jaw injury and a facial gash, the third such fatal attack in a month.
Senator Hitchcock of Nebraska challenged yesterday’s ratification of the four power Pacific treaty citing legal technicalities about the domestic declaration of delegates. Senator Lodge of Massachusetts defended the action and said he would propose a resolution to ratify the declaration.
Capt. Charles Ainsleigh, skipper of a coal barge, was wounded by submarine fire off the coast. His small son waved an American flag on deck. After a year of unemployment, the American Legion helped him secure a watchman job at the Massachusetts State House in Boston.
