President plans a White House meeting with Jens and other allies tomorrow to press for a compromise on the soldier bill. Supporters rally behind a negotiated path while lawmakers weigh concessions and political risk.
Readers anticipate a vote on the older bonus bill as Speaker Gillett and committee members confer on suspension procedures. The Associated Press notes plans for continued debate in the House over two days with possible presidential position influence and a party conference framing the path forward.
An inquest is to determine the death of a prominent Augusta resident. The man, previously ill, died after a violent attack while his daughter was en route home from Macomb. Born in Rushville, he served as postmaster and left behind three daughters and a sister in Rushville.
County officers and state officials met at the Galesburg Y M C A to map institute schedules for McDonough and nine neighboring counties in the Fourteenth and Fifteenth districts. Meetings were arranged for Adams, Henry, Schuyler, Hancock, Henderson, McDonough, Mercer and Warren with dates in October November and December at Liberty Geneseo Rushville Rozetta Stronghurst Bixville Macomb Aledo and other sites. Fulton Warren Knox and Rock Island meetings were not finalized.
John Rodgers is seriously ill with pneumonia at his residence on South McArthur Street. His condition worsened as his respiratory infection produced pus in the affected areas.
A public meeting will be held at Redmen Hall Colchester on Tuesday March 21 at 2 oclock pm. Community high school affairs will be discussed to improve understanding and find ways and means to serve shared interests. All are urged to attend and participate in the meeting committee.
Ven Murphy of Good Hope narrowly escaped injury when a high line pole broke causing the arm to spin and Murphy to fall about 25 feet into a mud puddle. He was uninjured. Macomb city court will not require a jury this term, starting March 20 at city hall. A few divorce cases are listed, but no jury is needed. Veniremen drawn for the March jury need not report Monday due to the announcement.
State corrected report shows 117 candidates took the teachers examination at the Second ward school building over two days. Some papers covered multiple subjects while others retook failing topics. Papers will be sent to Springfield for correction and results will take four to six weeks to determine if candidates qualify.
St. Louis report states a parents committee cites charges against the Soldan High School view clubs scandal. President Victor J. Miller of the board of police commissioners did not substantiate the claims and was urged to make a public retraction.
Los Angeles March 18 report: the William Desmond Taylor murder case resurfaces as authorities announce a suspect has been arrested in relation to the 1922 death, bringing renewed attention to the long unsolved mystery.
Fire crews respond to a blaze at the Myrick residence on East Su at around ten o'clock. The blaze appears to have started in the flue and burned out with damage confined to the chimney area. No injuries reported.
The Red Men district pow wow proceeds with a parade planned for the evening despite overcast skies. Macomb Boys Band will lead the procession through the business district while regalia clad tribes from Cuba Canton Farmington Colchester and other lodges attend the indoor initiatory work and tonight’s banquet.

The Plymouth Mutual Telephone Company dissolved its corporation after a meeting in Springdale. Henry Swiftart was secretary of state and Peoria officials reported the illness of his wife and daughter, prompting travel. The company had capital stock around 500 and its president was connected to Plymouth arrangements.
The village board has purchased a one ton Ford fire truck with a 250 gallon per minute pump and 1000 feet of hose to protect residents and businesses after a recent major fire. Equipment includes chemicals for small blazes, ladders and buckets. Delivery awaits road conditions. a possible local demonstration may occur.
Custom officials in Miami seize 505 cases of fine wines and liquors on the yacht Patricia tied up at the port. The liquor, valued at about 50 000 dollars, is claimed by James Shewan a New York Yacht Club member to be the same liquor previously seized in San Francisco and returned as purchased before prohibition.
Jurors in the Madel yum Obenchain murder trial after eight hours of balloting reported uncertainty over testimony about automobile lights in Beverly Glen the night J Belton Kennedy was slain. The nine men and three women were reportedly divided nine to three for conviction with doubt whether lights came from Obenchain Kennedy car or a side road vehicle linked to co defendant Arthur Burch.
Mrs. Alice Shields is remanded for trial on first degree murder after a hearing in Deland Florida. A Black man Pete Smth is charged with the actual killing as Shields allegedly conspired with him during a trip from Deland to St. Cloud. The case arose after information from a Ku Klux Klan investigation committee led to her arrest. She drove the car at the time of the shooting.
