Champaign, UL, June 23. Officers of the Illinois Sunday School association elected this morning include President Claude E. Tilson of Fairmount and first vice president J. C. Wells of Nokomis. The new executive committee lists L. B. Vose of Macomb and other members from Olney, Alton, Rock Island, Gibson City, Paris and more.
Macomb's Independent baseball squad travels to La Harpe Sunday for a diamond contest with Hancock County. La Harpe has lost only one of eight starts and will test the locals mettle. Boots Runkle returns to play third base after college work at Ames Iowa. Turner moves to first and Murphy to the outfield.
The Journal Carriers face a challenge from By-Stander's outfit with a proposed game on Monday afternoon at the Normal field. The carriers cite Freddie Dansart’s stiff neck and other players’ practice as excuses while vowing to meet the opponents if no further interruptions arise.
Four large warehouses in the American quartermaster district at Bendorf near Coblenz were burned last night destroying vast stores of lumber towage and reserve rations. The origin of the fire is unknown and the loss is estimated at several hundred thousand dollars.
The American Federation of Labor convenes in Denver to shape its platform with John L. Lewis running for president while Gompers defends the federation’s right to set its own principles. The session also addresses women’s rights in unions and labor relations with Europe, plus a call for Harding to probe the 1919 Standard Steel Car Co. riot. In Springfield, road legislation advances with measures on camping near schools, road funds, and state aid road construction and taxation.

Macomb boys in a Saturday morning contest for supremacy between Indian and Cowboy outfits will meet at 10 30 oclock in a vacant lot four blocks west of Lafayette on Piper street with ponies supplied by the pony show. An 18 member team will be selected tonight at 8 30 on the show grounds. The Indians will elect a chief and the cowboys will pick a leader. Girls contest at 9 30 on the grounds and the last pony act Saturday night.
In Litchfield on June 24, ten employees of the Litchfield Telephone Company returned to work after a two month strike. They agreed to work ten days without pay but refused wage reductions. Telegraph lines resumed as bells rang in the morning.
Frederick Mitchell of Wheeling West Virginia and William Conroy of Peoria are jailed in Macomb charged with robbing the Melvin Bros hardware store in Bushnell Monday night. They may seek bond and release to await the September grand jury. Conroy sent a letter to a Peoria attorney asking him to confer with his client. the attorney has not yet responded.
The county court jurors are dispensed for the term as Frank P. Hunt of Peoria waives trial by jury on a charge of wife abandonment. His was the only jury trial this term, saving county money. Judge Ines will dispose of the case. Hunt posted bond for next Monday. City court jurors remain summoned for Monday, June 27.
Henry Wickliff Crenshaw of Carthage will receive a new trial for the August 24 1920 fatal fist strike on Bert Langford of Bentley at the Carthage fairgrounds. Convicted of murder in Hancock circuit court, Crenshaw was sentenced to fourteen years and released on bond during appeal. The Indiana Supreme Court sustained the appeal and ordered retrial in circuit court. A date will be set after the court receives the order.
A genuine freak of nature, a two headed calf, was born on the A. T. Wagner farm east of Bushnell. The mother is a full blood Durham owned by Earl Raby. The calf had two heads and necks joining the body at the shoulders and lived briefly. Coroner S B Russler had it embalmed and it will be auctioned Saturday afternoon. Worth seeing.
Macomb fair grounds hosts the Old Normal reunion July 28 with invitations sent to hundreds of former students. Local funds are sought to cover postage stationery and music with a goal of several hundred 50 cent to 1 dollar contributions from nearby alumni to defray costs.
Ma comb Agricultural Fair announces box seat sales for the Fourth of July auto races at the fair grounds. Reserved seats go on sale at P D Roark's drug store starting 9:00 a.m. Monday June 27 and remain available until July 3 or until sold out. Only 156 seats are available, and buyers should act quickly.
