Narrow Escapes in Colorado Floods near Pueblo

Residents endured harrowing hours as a cloudburst washed out roads and flooded farms near La Junta and Pueblo. Mr. Sullivan, his wife Mrs Sullivan, and their children faced rising waters and a collapsed barn, finally reaching safety after the torrent damaged property and cut access for days. County board of supervisors spent most of yesterday and today on committee business leaving general sessions brief. Several supervisor reports and the auditors report for County Treasurer Barclay were filed. State aid bridge and culvert construction across ships in yesterday’s list cost about 12 000 but was listed as 1 200 due to a missing digit.

Carnival lure pulls teen girl from Carthage to Burlington

Sixteen year old Bessie Harford ran away to join a carnival company. Burlington police stopped her midnight trip home. Her adopted father Harry Taylor forgave her and took her back to Carthage after Sheriff Bennett wired for arrest. Officers Hartman and Stapleton detained a girl matching the description who then identified as Elsie Dair. baggage confirmed the escape. The case notes the carnival's influence on the girl and her guardian’s belief the troupe recruited her. A jitney dance drew a large Holmes Park crowd with O’Farrell’s orchestra scheduled next.

Hillyer in Lewiston with New Ninth District Judges

Three newly elected Ninth district judges plan to begin work next week in Lewiston Knox Cock county and Hancock counties. Judge George C Hillyer will hold court in Lewiston starting Monday and stay through the term. Judge Walter C Frang will open in Knox county on Monday June 20 and likely remain there. Judge W F Graham will start June 25 for a brief session then move to Carthage for Hancock county circuit court.
