Neighborhood resident Archie Butterfield reports two men tried to break into the Miner home on Jefferson Street early this morning. A revolver was fired, but the suspects fled. police could not locate them and no entry was gained.

He fled toward LaHarpe and Colusa before being tracked by bloodhounds and captured the same night in timber. He was sent to Hancock county jail in Carthage.

A large crowd attended the M E Sunday school picnic yesterday at the fair grounds. Games and a baseball match were enjoyed. Attendees brought well filled baskets and had a thoroughly delightful day.
Chicago witnesses describe a self stirred plot by White Sox players to fix the 1919 World Series. Eddie Cicotte and others allegedly discussed a $100,000 payoff with gamblers and bankers including Abe Attell Hal Chase and Arnold Rothstein at New York hotels in September 1919. Burns testified the plan involved five players and Rothstein funding, with Rothstein declining to back the scheme.
Eamonn De Valera and his cabinet left Dublin for the seat of government as Lloyd George delivered a British settlement proposal on the Irish question. De Valera promised Irish success in time and thanked supporters at the station before departing with Sinn Fein enthusiasm.
