J. R. Brent state director of the Phosphate and Limestone Department of the Illinois Agricultural Association will speak Wednesday July 14 at 11 p.m. in the Commercial Association rooms. He will discuss phosphate and limestone handling, storage shed and bin structure, and financing methods. The County Farm Bureau sponsors an open meeting for McDonough county farmers with presence expected from adjoining counties. The association operates offices at Columbia Tennessee where phosphate and limestone are mined and Illinois farmer orders are inspected before shipment. samples are analyzed in the association laboratories.
Rock Islanders once students at the Western Illinois State Normal school organized The Macomb Normal Club. The name was chosen at a Prospect Park picnic in Moline. Members and families enjoyed social time followed by a business meeting planning future activities. A wine roast is set for the first week of October with date and place to be announced.
A parade of travelers stops at New Jolly Hotel including Mr and Mrs George Smith and daughter Jane from Springfield. Numerous other families and couples from Blandinsville Mendota Torraine Des Moines Chicago Burlington Quincy New Salem Indiana arrive while enroute to Kansas City Omaha Chicago and Hannibal using Buick Ford Studebaker and Chevrolet autos.
The Committee of 48 and allied liberal groups begin a national campaign in Chicago with Senator Robert M. La Follette leading the ticket. Delegates from Labor, Nonpartisan, Single Tax, and other factions bring planks for a fusion platform, while rows over railroad ownership and employee participation delay final agreement.
Senator Kenyon announced he will seek repeal of the last congress appropriation to the department of justice to combat high living costs. He says the funds were mainly used to boost Attorney General Palmer for the Democratic presidential nomination and little was used to fight high costs. He chairs the Senate committee investigating presidential campaign expenditures.
Anna May Price visits Macomb City Library and urges greater use of facilities for non residents. A county library in McDonough is discussed with potential benefits to farmers. New books and magazines welcomed. Atlantic Monthly article on child education recommended. readers urged to ask the librarian.
Mrs. Mabel Sappington of Blandinsville files divorce from George Sappington charging Lewd acts adultery and extreme cruelty. Case set for September term of Circuit Court with Curran & Curran as counsel. She seeks custody of Roy 4 and Helen Louise 2 and asks husband to pay legal costs.
The Chicago Art Institute, famed for a great collection, will be discussed by TI.C Burkholder. He will give a lecture on Noted Pictures in The Art Institute in the State Normal Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The residence of Mrs. Sarah Zimmerman in the 200 block on West Carroll street has been moved to the east side of the lot preparatory to building a handsome new residence. Work on the new house will begin at once. Licenses issued to Wed Simon A. Ingles Industry Flossie Peazier Industry.
A morning circuit court short session handled minor cases. Dispositions include partition actions Mable A Matthews versus David R Doner and John B Ott versus Mary Ott with master's reports on purchase money and deeds, and guardianship fee distributions. Rita Eva Wilson versus Chas N Wilson amended bill in divorce. Lela Mae Bassett against Donald R Nelson partition with deed master report and decree. Judge Greer arrived at noon, overruled a demurrer, and ordered appearance in thirty days in Mary E Brown versus Wm A Compton.
Members of the Entre Nous Club celebrated Mrs. Rena Wally's birthday with a home gathering and a handmade doily gift. Attendees included Eva Carson, Margaret Moon, Grace Newland, Ada Williams, Ida Myers, Jennie Rundle, Helen Hunt, Hildegarde Waly, and many others.
In Quincy on June 9 a suspect claimed guilt to deputies but later denied knowledge of the DeGroot infant murder. Authorities question locals, noting the case remains baffling as they probe who placed the 11 day old baby in the watering tank and why.
R A Miner of South McArthur Street possesses an 1831 full stock rifle once traded for a two year old steer. The weapon, updated from flintlock to cap, includes a solder horn. He also has a seven shot cartridge revolver his brother found in Mississippi during the Civil War in 1863. The holster bears Confederate initials C. S.
Lloyd Purdum son of Mr and Mrs S F E Purdum left this morning for Cincinnati to take a position with the Worthington Pump Co.
