Criminal docket prep for circuit court term opens January twenty three
The list of cases scheduled for the circuit court term begins January 23 with a mix of criminal and civil matters. Thieves entered the Herring Bros garage in Bushnell Sunday night and escaped with 17 automobile casings. Night Policeman James Turner found the window open and alerted local and surrounding authorities, including Quincy. Police pursue leads as investigations broaden.

Two Charged With Theft Of Harness From Delbridge Barn
Ray Chandler and Edward Baumgardner of Colchester were arrested by Sheriff Kupp on a charge of stealing harness from the Delbridge barn in Lamoime township last Sept. 16. They posted $500 bonds for appearance in Circuit Court next week. Bonds signed by Mrs. Addie Baumgardner and W. Chandler. Harness valued at about $25.

Four Farmers Die in Train Collision Near Palmyra
Four men in a Ford touring car were killed when struck by a Burlington passenger train near Palmyra Missouri. Only Stephen Gupton, a prominent local farmer, was identified. The car reportedly halted as the train neared the crossing then tried to move forward. The vehicle was dragged about 200 yards. bodies not severely mangled.

Vocational Education Talk Inspires Civic Meeting
Supt. Ernest Iler of the public schools addressed a joint meeting of the civic bureau and retail merchants bureau on vocational education. He cited a Wisconsin town’s vocational school where hundreds of youths and workers learn to support families, noting the plan may benefit communities even if not adopted in Macomb. The state is organizing to support such education.

Mary and Joe Moore residents of Bushnell charged with conducting a house of ill fame within the city limits will fight the case. They were apprehended by Bushnell police yesterday and demanded a jury trial. Attorney H. H. Harris represents the defendants in the suit brought by the People of Bushnell.

Taken Sick on Way to Chicago With Stock
John W. Wilhelm of Scotland township is recovering from an operation at Henrotin hospital in Chicago. He fell ill while transporting cattle and hogs last week and was sent to the hospital by a physician. He is doing well and expects to leave next week.

Two Arrested in Plymouth Hardware Burglary Case
Police arrested Howard Moon and Wallace Culp of this city on December 16 burglary charges in the Plymouth Hardware Co. theft. Guns and stock valued at 350 dollars were stolen. Sheriff Bennett, aided by Sheriff J N Gennett, took the youths to Carthage to face charges.

Alleged bank defaulter surrenders in Illinois
Artie Meininger, cashier of the closed Night and Day Bank, was indicted on two counts of grand larceny and embezzlement. He surrendered in Belleville, Illinois, to St. Louis police after being sought nationwide since the bank’s closure January 6. Defalcations amount to 74,000 reportedly.
