The Illinois lawsuit accuses Gov. Len Small and Lt. Gov. Sterling and two Curtis brothers of a conspiracy to divert 535000 of state funds through false deposits and bogus accounts. The suit, referencing a grand jury report, claims funds were shuffled via Grant Park Bank and used to profit Armour Company and others, with profits split and records hidden.
A Chicago attorney says well to do supporters will fund copying of the Alverson murder records at $600 so the doctor can press his innocence with the state board of pardons. A petition for Mrs. Lawrence Clugston’s release remains under board review as Dr. Alverson maintains he knows nothing of the crime while awaiting the pardon decision.
The state’s bill of particulars was filed late tonight alleging a $17,918,500 in the nonexistent Grant Park Bank. C C Leforgee and Werner W Schrieder declined comment. The governor, in Chicago, left for Kankakee at noon before filing. Col A V Smith filed the document for Fred Mortimer of Sangamon county.
St Louis January 6 The night and day bank with deposits around three million dollars did not open today. State Bank Commissioner Hughes said examiners found an apparent shortage of more than 100000 dollars. The cashier has not appeared since Wednesday.
The five greatest naval powers agreed to end submarine warfare against merchant ships, binding between themselves and inviting others to join. The action follows the 1914-1918 war precedent, with ratification to come via open session after the five-power treaty joins the conference agenda in Cannes.

A Macomb hominy vendor claims southern and eastern residents eat more hominy than those in the north and west. He suggests a citywide hominy contest pitting quarters against each other to test the claim.
Residents would be divided into blocks to rank consumption of hominy and compare with neighboring blocks. A friendly, neighborly contest could be launched to determine which side of the street prefers soaked kennals, a plan farmers might welcome for higher corn prices.
In Belfast two people were wounded when gunfire resumed amid clashes between rival mobs. A bomb was thrown but caused no damage as military and police increased patrols after a night of violence.
President Frank Farington of the Illinois United Mine Workers said relief for Kansas strikers will continue, but now paid from the Illinois district treasury and not by a $1 monthly assessment. The district will fund aid from a $45,000 monthly pool after dues transition. Ballots on authority to levy the assessment will be counted January 6 at state HQ.
Arthur Buzzell, cashier of the State Bank of Lydon Illinois, is reported missing from his post and home in Whiteside county. The bank is closed by officers pending arrival of an examiner from State Auditor Russell's office after Buzzell left a note for his wife but none for bank officials.
Mrs Rebecca Miles is improving after falling on ice two weeks ago and breaking her arm and shoulder. Medical reports note steady progress as she recovers at home with care and guidance from physicians.
