Springfield reports the constitutional convention adopted a state income tax plan by 53 to 8 with a $500 exemption. Delegate P F Elting of Macomb opposed the $500 exemption. An amendment to raise the exemption to $1,000 was defeated.

A mysterious assailant fired through a farmhouse door at Jonas McGrew in Walnut Grove after four threatening letters demanded $1,000. Patient Lapses After Operation Following Injury
Back of his head and one hand were skinned badly with no other visible injuries. Doctors reported no internal injuries. The patient lapsed into unconsciousness during the operation but was resting fairly well today.

Cool Heads Avert Theatre Fire Panic
Chicago on February 23 saw a theatre fire scare when crossed wires ignited canvas in the wings. The packed audience did not panic, many stayed seated, and the performance resumed after the fire was cut. The event echoed the Dec. 30, 1903 Iroquois Theatre tragedy where 575 died.

Train Service Restored on T P W Route Amid Crew Changes
In LaHarpe at least two weeks of limited train service ended as the T P W restored its old schedule. Conductor Matt Totten runs a Bushnell Burlington round trip daily, Charlie Philips handles Hamilton Keokuk, and Clyde Lionberger resumes the dinkey run Hamilton Warsaw Keokuk. Passengers may now again travel to Burlington and return.
