Springfield Feb 10 The Vermont school district case involving Fulton county and Olive Branch district is remanded for jury determination of abnormal district size and its effect on constitutional free schooling. The Supreme Court denied rehearing noting districts’ abnormality is a factual question for a jury.
Perry Williams of Colmar, former elevator owner in Plymouth, fell down a narrow stair as a lighted lamp dropped to the bottom. He sprained his back and received care from Dr. McDaniel. Oil spilled on stairs and floor but no fire resulted.
Doctor J B Holmes plans a public welfare service to aid the city’s needy without seeking financial returns. Miss Vera Yarnell will supervise cases and arrange nurse visits, expanding medical relief while coordinating with charities and churches. New York reports a 25 percent drop in influenza and pneumonia cases, health commissioner Dr. Royal S. Copeland announced today. The decline is noted as a relief in city health statistics amid ongoing epidemic concerns.
Knox College slipped past Lombard 20 to 19 in a close Galesburg game last night. Spectators included John Leander Tharlan Pittenger Dr. J. W. Vermeter Edward Sala and Duane Henderson.

In Topeka on February 10 a man taken off a Quota Metro train was identified by scar marks as Edward Sands the murdered director William Desmond Taylor’s secretary butler. The suspect Walter Underwood denied knowledge of the murder while admitting embezzlement charges and recent employment as a cashier for eight months. Authorities note the man resembles Sands in appearance and scars consistent with the description. Also in Mt Vernon area about one million dollars is planned for public improvements this year, including a concrete road between Mt Vernon and Warne City.
President Harding presented seven Washington conference treaties to the Senate with a request for ratification as guarantees of peace. He said the pacts have no alliance or entangling commitments and are designed to end contradictions while preserving constitutional methods. Harding noted to avoid entangling foreign commitments and included both parties in the delegation.
Washington Feb 10 President Harding is expected to present in person to the senate the treaties from the arms conference. White House officials said that the executive had cancelled today’s appointments and would probably meet only briefly with the cabinet before appearing before the senate.
In Hammond Indiana on February 9, the mother of the late World War hero Lieut Patrick O'Brien, destitute, was driven to sell a tiger skin trophy from his Nimrodian jungle days. She sold it to Jan Kirby of Mommenee NL for $530 and lives with her son in law Ben Marley twenty miles south of Toyanal.
