Springfield news reports the general assembly adjourned at 11 a.m. and that Governor Small’s new public utilities commission was named. It notes confirmations, expense committee makeup, and university funding debates including Kinley of Illinois, with bills on court salaries and public accounting pending.
Washington reports that a United States call for an international disarmament conference will be issued soon after President-elect Harding’s inauguration. Chairman G W Butler of the house naval committee led questions from naval officers and Rear Admiral Sims urged halving global navies if politics allow.
Springfield reports bids sought by Feb 18 for a 60 million bond issue to finance 133 miles of paving across nine sections in 15 counties, plus 37 miles of roads and 20 bridges. Allocation includes Livingston Kane Henry Knox Warren on various routes and sections.
The bridge project seven miles northwest of Blandinsville was awarded to W. J. Fowler of Harpe on a bid of 2300 dollars. Eight bidders offered prices from 200 to 2849. The structure must be completed by July 1 with costs shared by McDoneath and Hancock counties.
The Weather Bureau seismograph at the University of Chicago recorded an earthquake 1,710 miles from Chicago this morning. Shocks were described as medium intensity with the first at 2 38 a m and the maximum ten minutes later, the final at 5 40. Lines running together prevented learning the quake’s direction.

The Public Utilities Commission approved an agreement between the C B Q railroad and Standard Oil Co to install a new unloading device on the Standard Oil branch in the city. The system includes pipe along tracks to unload coils into cars, promising faster unloading and less waste.
Ed Sherbine of Illinois Bankers Life Insurance Co paid Jonas Wilson of New Philadelphia $1 000 this week as half of his policy for total disability. Wilson cannot recover his former health and has hiccoughs described as persistent. Chas Sweeney of Blandinsville visited locally last week to seek hiccough treatment after ten days of illness while visiting Oklahoma.
Mr and Mrs Chas Patno of Industry return from Loyal Wisconsin where they were summoned by the death of his sister Mrs Geo Ives. The deceased was not known in this area.

Last Saturday Mr and Mrs B F Smith of Bardolph celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. An excellent anniversary feast was served and the bridal couple were the recipients of many fine and useful presents. Mrs Smith was before her marriage Miss Rosa Harris.
No word has been received from Mrs Frank M Neylon who is ill in Chicago where she was taken for treatment of a disease resembling sleeping sickness Her condition is serious and she struggles to stay awake.
