Death of Mrs H Fisher at her Galesburg home cited acute asthma. Jacob Fisher and wife travel from this city in response to the news. Also noted is the death of Miss Mary Biggs from a stroke at the county home, last resident of the old McDonough county home on a North Farm site, born 1845. No known living relatives.

Fire Bug Incendiary Fires Rip Through Fayette County

A fire bug, active in Fayette and West Morland counties for two months, struck a large barn and two residences in Fayette City. The barn, valued around 60,000 dollars, was destroyed while the homes survived. Total losses exceed 500,000 dollars. Firefighters from Charleroi could not save the barn contents, including two horses, six cows, 1600 bushels of oats, and equipment. Additional blazes on nearby residences were contained as state troopers provided protection and roadblocks hindered fire company access.

Tarife Bill Is Ready For Action

The House ways and means committee voted out the Fordney emergency tariff bill to protect farmers and urged action before Christmas recess. Agricultural district representatives backed including frozen and refrigerated meat lemons and canned salmon in the high tariff list while some argued the bill favors voters. Lemons were added and a 1.5 cent per pound battery was set. peanut oil rate rose to 26 cents per gallon.

A Saturday blaze, likely from a defective flue, razed the two story Mrs. A Shirk farm home two and a half miles east of Bardolph. Emmer Hay, occupant and son of Marion Hay, saw the roof collapse as first floor contents were moved outside. second floor and basement contents were lost. Insurance status unclear.

Mrs Sharp wife of the sign painter with offices in the Gamage building became ill this afternoon in what was thought to be a heart attack. She was revived by a doctor and taken home.
