Arrest Trunk Murder Suspect in South America

Eugene Leroy, wanted by Detroit police in the trunk murder of a woman believed to be his wife, was arrested aboard the British freighter Dryden at Rio de Janeiro. He was held by maritime police while the ship remained in port. The Dryden had departed New York August 3, ten days after the body was found, and authorities learned a description matched Leroy on board.

Body of Professor Roberts Recovered After Drowning

The body of Professor Homer L. Roberts former Normal school instructor drowned near Emminence Missouri Tuesday morning has been recovered. A telegram to relatives in Lewistown said remains would arrive at Cape Girardeau today and that interment will likely be in Cape Girardeau rather than Fulton County. Earlier search had feared the body would not be found for days due to swift current, but a follow up message reported a successful recovery.

Crowds filled the A. C. Dehority store for a record sale opening yesterday. Despite threatening weather the event drew large attendance and promised the year's best bargains with equal selection from opening day to the final hour. Twenty extra salespeople handled the crowds.

London Aug 26 Herron Mc Sweeney lord mayor of Cork, starved in Brixton prison after two collapses, was visited by Father Dominick and sisters. Thirteen policemen were injured outside the jail amid clashes. A separate Macomb census dispute cites 7 213 inside city and 225 outside, total 7458, with housing and industry growth noted and a Presbyterian women’s world tour planned.

Mrs Ed Waters Injured by Auto at Fair Grounds

Mrs Ed Waters of Table Grove Fulton county was seriously hurt when struck by a taxi at the state fair grounds in Springfield. The car driven by Charles Sharpe passed over her body as she waited for a street car. She was taken to St Johns hospital with possible internal injuries.

Man Killed by Blow at Carthage Fair

At the Hancock county fair grounds in Carthage a fist fight ended when Wick Crenshaw of Warsaw struck Bud Langford of Bentley on the chin. Langford died minutes later from a broken neck. Crenshaw was arrested. Langford’s domestic troubles are cited as a possible motive.
