Mr and Mrs Geo W Wallace aged about 55 to 60 of Elvaston Illinois were killed when Burlington southbound passenger No 9 struck their Studebaker at a crossing a mile north of St Augustine. The car was demolished and the couple en route to Peoria to visit children. The accident occurred before noon as the train due in the city at 11 15 struck the vehicle on the double track. The victims were not mangled though both suffered broken limbs. The inquest was to be held in St Augustine with Knox county coroner arriving. Roy Wallace, a son, was contacted in Elvaston after the bodies were identified via an envelope in the man's pocket.
