Washington reports Senator Harrison of Mississippi charged the administration with appointing George Harvey as ambassador to Great Britain as a reward for efforts to undermine the Wilson administration. He likened Harvey to Miltons hell hounds at the gates of hell and warned his London arrival could sway Britain against the League of Nations. The scene followed a Senate debate over the appointment and related foreign policy concerns.
Federal officials report William D. Haywood secretary of the I W W has fled the United States and is now in Moscow or Riga. U S district attorney Charles F. Clyne said a search is underway and Haywood is not at Leavenworth New York or Chicago. His attorney argues the move may be a special mission rather than an escape.

Paris says Germany refused to transfer gold reserves to Coblenz and Cologne branches as demanded by the reparations commission. Secretary Hughes declined to confirm or deny receipt of a German message at the White House.
Tennessee voters elected Temperance candidates Tuesday defeating Independents. Winners include Ed Pittinger for President of Own Board and trustees James Garris Leo Logan Fred Flack with Aaron Teel filling a vacancy. Defeated were J S Batson N A Seipel C E Nichols Charles McMilland John Forton. No prohibition issue arose.
