Cubs Down Oakville To Win League Title
The Cubs baseball club finally captured the Civil Air League trophy, a title missing since 1955, after beating Oakville 6 to 3. Key moments included a five-run fifth inning, Barrie Barber lifting a long two-base hit, and Ollie Olson preserving the win with a roaming defensive play. Bill Wood presented the Cobbe trophy to Cubs manager Ollie Olson, with the trophy on display at Dave's Lunch. The follow-up “Game of the Year” saw the singles beat the married men 8 to 6 in six innings.
