Canada July manufacturing slips amid seasonal lull
Canada’s manufacturing sector posted a July decline in shipments and new orders, offset by a rising backlog of unfilled orders. Seasonal factors explain most of the drop, with July shipments down 0.3 percent from June and new orders down 0.4 percent. All provinces except Newfoundland and Nova Scotia reported higher shipments for the first seven months of 1971, led by Ontario and Quebec, while Western provinces showed varying gains. The all-Canada total rose 3.1 percent to 27.12 billion for January–July compared with a year earlier.
