Manitoba tour highlights Portage vegetable industry growth
A 70 member group toured Riverdale Farms and Mulder Brothers in Portage to view onion, carrot, cabbage, and rutabaga operations supplying local and U.S. markets. Officials cited 85 percent local celery supply, high yields, and a $1 million-plus investment in storage and infrastructure. The Manitoba Vegetable Marketing Board aims to protect quality with No 1 Pac and econompac options, while emphasizing expanded marketing and employment.
