Prairie Harvesting Delays Slated For 2-3 Weeks
Canada’s weather outlook suggests two to three more weeks to finish the 1971 prairie grain harvest. Manitoba and Saskatchewan report good yields with harvesting well advanced in many areas, while Alberta varies. Swathing and combining are underway across the regions, with heavy winds in southern Saskatchewan causing losses. Reports from other provinces note delayed hay curing in Quebec and late-season harvests for tobacco, apples, and vegetables, with mixed crops and weather concerns impacting yields.

Brandon council in committee of the whole passed a 1.1 million grant toward finishing the Keystone Centre. The measure, approved 5 to 3, awaits alderman approval at the next regular meeting on Sept 20. A 20 year debenture and reserve funds would cover the rest, with provincial contributions already arranged and a separate one mill levy planned.
