Manitoba Rural Relief Agreement Reached On Relief Costs
An all day conference between Union of Manitoba Municipalities executives and the provincial government agreed on outside Winnipeg cost sharing for unemployment relief and direct relief. Dominion 50 percent, province 30 percent, municipalities 20 percent for unemployment relief and 50 percent for direct relief split 25 percent to municipalities. Premier Bracken fixed Winnipeg outside maximum at 2,500,900 dollars to enable about 6,000,000 total relief, with work expectations where possible. The plan aims to be broadly feasible and avoid hardship, with further talks on routes to keep Manitoba rural schools open during the ten month year.
