Sugar beets shape Manitoba south central farming
In Portage la Prairie and surrounding Manitoba areas sugar beets emerge as a major crop with some 359,000 metric tons delivered by about 550 growers. The 1975 crop could exceed $10 million in value with $30 per ton expected on world markets, though prices have fallen from prior highs.
