Ernie Pogue and Winnie Shaw extend heartfelt thanks to Winnipeg General Hospital staff LOCE Lye Motors and C W Lye Son for cards letters fruit cigarettes and visits. They also thank friends near and far for birthday thoughts and warm wishes.
City motorists who violate traffic rules can pay fines by depositing money in a box at the police station on weekends when the traffic office is closed. Saturday morning closing of the office was approved by the police commission as an economy measure.
The Department of Education announced Manitoba scholarships to Elaine Harland of Austin and Mary Pathgpin of Sidney. Mary attended MacGregor High School. Each will receive 325 dollars per year for two years to support university careers. Congratulations are extended to both winners.

Many residents depart for Winnipeg Calgary Vancouver and Ontario for study work or holidays while others host relatives at homes in Killarney Westbourne and MacGregor. Local figures include Miss Lauraine Smith and Sands of Winnipeg plus families like the Croucher and Vallance households.
A meeting of the Macauley Southend Hospital Aid at Macaulay School on August 29 had ten members. Mrs R A Collier presided. reports noted a ward radio purchase and canned fruit for the hospital from the past month. Mrs R Shaw delivered the Central Aid Meeting report.
Members were appointed to organize Bingo Nite at MacGregor Rink in September. Mrs RA Collier shared highlights from the 1984 Manitoba Woman's Hospital Auxiliaries Association report and outlined the 1885 convention in Winnipeg on October 19 and 20. The meeting adjourned to reconvene at Southend School on Monday, September 26 for the annual gathering.
