The Herald reports Borton's new store officially opened with an 10 o'clock ceremony. Coffee and donuts served. balloons cups and free samples for ladies and children. Building of cement blocks with brick front features large front windows and a 60 by 34 foot footprint. Interior shows shelves, vegetable and meat show cases, three central aisles, and ample space for merchandise. The new store expands stock and improves display versus the old building.

Rock Faults Could Cost $1 Million at Kettle Rapids
Manitoba Hydro chairman D. M. Stephens said two rock faults found at the Kettle Rapids site on the Nelson River may raise the project cost by over 1 million dollars. He noted the fault planes were undiscoverable until after much rock had been removed and estimated an extra 50 000 cubic yards of rock must be excavated beyond original estimates. He added a coffer dam’s watertightness saved more than 1 million dollars fall on the project and expressed hope for continued progress.

Two Bodies Recovered in Gall Rock Lake Missing Moose Hunters
Ontario Provincial Police report two woodcutters from Red Lake, Jerry Keesick aged 23 and Joseph Alex King aged 34, were found dead after going missing September 24. Dragging operations continue for two American moose hunters Edmund Kotola and Wayne Wicklund who failed to return to camp after their boat capsized on Sturgeon Lake near Ignace.
