Community members share weekend visits, including Mr and Mrs Gordon Unne in Phoenix and Mrs Margaret Watson hosting gatherings. October wedding anniversaries are listed for numerous couples with dates from Oct 2 to Oct 20. Local events include a rail rally, U C W meeting at Portage, and sports telecasts praising Rossendale’s players.
The column records births and anniversaries including Rhonda Marlene to Ron Parent and Glenda Scora in Calgary, and celebrations for Jack and Fern Frank, John Scora, Vicky Snaith, Olive Tarr, and Anne McDonald. It notes Sunday visits by Ed Roy to Portage and Cedar area, a wedding in Sault Ste. Marie, and various trips including Winnipeg.
The Austin United Church Women express gratitude to all who helped with wedding receptions this summer and fall. U C W meetings are the third Thursday each month and attendance is encouraged. The Austin and District Community Centre annual meeting is set for Tuesday Oct 29 at the Austin Community Hall with coffee and doughnuts.
Nelson A Hutcheson, a veteran and Legion member, calls on ministers and veterans to attend a planning meeting at MacGregor United Church on Monday Oct 8 at 8 pm for Remembrance Day service on Nov 11. He urges community involvement and cooperation to make the day memorable.
The Austin Centennial Club held a Happy Birthday party October 16 at Hillview Lodge lounge with lodge ladies as guests. Birthday celebrants included Mrs. Kay Fehr and Mrs. Kay Peters in September and Mrs. I. Gilmour in October. next party November 29 at the same place and time. Christmas party planned December 18. next regular meeting at Mrs. Kowlesky’s home November 12. lunch served at Hillview Lodge opening on ct. 21.
Recent visitors to the Burnside district include Mr and Mrs L Hyde with Mr and Mrs W J Leddy from Edmonton. Miss Isabel Coltart of Winnipeg visits the Coltart family. Mrs Ralph Smith remains a Portage General Hospital patient. We note the passing of former Burnside resident Mrs Carrie MacCroft. Mrs Arnold Askin visited her father Chas Edwards of Otterburne now in hospital.
Oakville hosts a timeaway campaign from Oct 28 to Nov 8. St Luke's A C W fall tea and bazaar is Oct 28 at Oakville Community Hall from 3 pm. A Halloween family fun night is Oct 26 in the school auditorium from 7 to 9 pm, sponsored by the Oakville Figure Skating Club. Visitors to the Nicholls home over the weekend include Amos Wood of Portage la Prairie and Mrs Gertie Wood of Winnipeg Residence for the Blind, plus Mr and Mrs Bill Allison of Lake Tahoe California.
