Austin Ladies Curling Club Plans Season and Fundraiser
The Austin Ladies' Curling Club met at Mrs. Audrey Lamb's home on Wednesday evening November 20. They decided to affiliate with the ML C.A. allowing one rink in playdowns and voted to donate 100 toward heating fuel. A Weekend mixed bonspiel is planned January 31 to February 2. A quilt donated by Mrs. John Jones and Mrs. C. Jones will be raffled to support rink insulation and lining. Early Man Evidence Found North of Saskatoon
Anthropologists led by Z B Pohorecky of the University of Saskatchewan uncovered potential tools and a woolly mammoth jaw two miles north of Saskatoon. Fragments suggest tool use before bows and arrows, with ripple fractures indicating rapid strikes. Finds include a blade fragment and remains of a woolly mammoth and a small horse. If confirmed, site indicates human presence before 18 000 years ago, dating from 38 000 years old above and 18 000 years old below the soil layer.

University professor jailed for hashish possession
Eugene Sobel, 26, an assistant professor at the University of British Columbia, received one day in jail and a $1000 fine after being arrested August 11 at Vancouver International Airport. Customs found hashish in his luggage on returning from Australia where he lectured on a Fulbright. Sobel holds a PhD from Johns Hopkins and will resume teaching next summer in mathematics.
