Gas-saving car gadgets blasted by APA chief

The Automobile Protection Association says investing in gas-saving automotive accessories is a bad bet. In a 15-page report Philip Edmonston faults 16 devices sold in Canada or US only and notes no independent tests prove claimed fuel savings or emission improvements. He cites fines against 11 Canadian devices under the Combines Act and urges drivers to change habits or choose efficient options instead.

Carberry collision injures two near Portage RCMP report

A westbound car and a Portage area transport truck collided on the bypass, sending two occupants to Portage General Hospital with undetermined injuries. The truck driver Don Menzies of Carberry, Man. was uninjured and the truck carried 33 cattle. no cattle injuries were reported. The RCMP and rural detachments continue to investigate the incident.

Woman Driver Charged in Church Lawn Crash

RCMP reported an accident at 402nd St. SW at 1:40 a.m. Tuesday. A car ended up on the front lawn of St. Mary's Church after striking a parked vehicle. One person was taken to Portage General Hospital for a minor injury. A woman was charged with impaired driving in connection with the crash.

West Coast holiday return marks quiet local week

Mr and Mrs W Judd came back Saturday from a holiday on the west coast. A party for Mr and Mrs Bill Sissons celebrated their second wedding anniversary on November 16 at 1411 1th Street Northwest. Attendees included Mr and Mrs H Winters of Oakville, Mr and Mrs Ron Muir, Mrs Dorothy White and her son Greg, and Mike Ireland. Hostess was Miss Sharon Elks.

Oakville 4-H Club Holds November Meeting

Oakville 4 H Combined Club met November 18 at Oakville Hall with two members present. Members announced projects in roll call. A Pot Luck Supper was set for December 9 at 6 p.m. in Oakville Hall for members and families. Committees were formed to plan the event. Cherry Ann Wilson and Alexus Einarson reported on their summer 4 H tours.

Langruth W I completes 60 years of service

The Langruth Women's Institute marked its 60th year with the Nov 22 meeting ending the 6th year of activity. The group, with 20 members, highlighted projects from Fall Fair to a May Hobby Show and a 86th birthday for charter member Mrs L Thorleltson. Members reported on Heart Disease prevention, alcohol education, citizenship studies, and UN work. They support 4H, Cancer Society activities, and visits to Winnipeg. international ties include the Federated Women’s Institute and ACWW. Elections named a new board. the event closed with a banquet for 30 members and guests.

Central Aid Holds November Meeting At MacGregor

Special to the Herald Minnie Paryniuk reports Central Aid held its November gathering with five members and Mrs. M Nichol present. Marion Barth chaired as president and VP were absent. Minutes read by Mrs. G Nichol. Christmas Card Fund details finalized. names due December 15 at the local Co op and will be published in the MacGregor Herald December 22. Funds support carpet and rugs for the day room. Aid approves purchase of a safety belt for a wheelchair and two curettes. Work on the new Care Home Argyle House will start soon. Marion Barth to attend Manitoba Health Auxiliary meeting in Winnipeg November 24-25. Next meeting January 8. no December meeting.
