Gas and Fuel Oil Hikes Authorized
The government authorized an immediate two cents per gallon rise in gasoline and heating oil east of the Ottawa Valley with a forecast of another three cent increase soon. It also raised the 40 cents per barrel crude export tax to $1.90 effective Dec 1. Canada will export about 1,005,280 barrels of crude oil daily to the United States this month at roughly $4.70 per barrel before the tax. Energy Minister Donald Macdonald warned of possible winter supply interruptions due to Middle East cuts, urged voluntary reductions, and noted no rationing yet.
