More Are Believing That the Devil Exists
A Centre for Policy Research study shows belief in the devil rising in nine years from 37 to 48 percent of the US population, with another 20 percent considering it probable. Absolute certainty in God fell to 69 percent, while 25 percent hold reservations. Researchers link the rise to times of stress and uncertainty, noting risks of witch hunting and demagogic promises.

Flood controls praised by Manitoba engineers in spring review
Engineers say Manitobans misunderstand flood protection since 1950 and note that $120 million invested in flood control saved about $250 million in damage in 1974. They defend ongoing roles of engineers with local and emergency authorities and call for appreciation of protected communities and reduced losses this year. They cite Shellmouth Reservoir, Portage Diversion, and the Winnipeg Floodway as key works and acknowledge that not all problems are solved.

Milk Producers to Get Higher Payout Under New System
Manitoba Milk Producers Marketing Board chairman Arnold Edie says the province will not lose money under the new marketing plan. He notes the net result is about a hundredweight higher than the old system, with industrial milk producers receiving roughly $1.40 more per hundredweight as the federal four cents a quart subsidy is passed to producers and the provincial interim subsidy ends with the new federal subsidy. Under the reform, fluid milk quotas are eliminated and all grade A milk is pooled regardless of delivery source or use.
