Soil Management For Drifting Control
Manitoba faces severe dust storms due to winds up to fifty miles per hour. R D Dryder of Brandon warns erosion hazards this spring from light crop and weed residue with low moisture. Immediate emergency control recommended where drifting occurs. tillage can help on many soils but may be temporary on light sands. Straw or manure may be needed to curb drift before it worsens. Long term plans should include minimal tillage for weed control and trash cover, with blade machines preferred to keep surface litter intact.
