MacGregor Mobilizes for Flood Victims Relief

In response to a Red Cross plea MacGregor residents form a Billeting Catering and Finance committee led by May Shaw to shelter and feed evacuees. A telegram offers space for 200 and urges Winnipeg supplies of cots and bedding. The Memorial becomes central HQ as Red River flood height climbs and more Winnipeg areas evacuate. Residents urged to register and contribute beds blankets and kitchen support.

Collecting Clothing For Manitoba Flood Victims

Winnipeg relief drive appeals for clean warm clothing for flood victims in Manitoba. Headquarters in Winnipeg urge donations of sweaters jackets heavy wool socks mitts gloves and children's and women's wear to Municipal Office for packing and shipping to needy families along the Red River valley.

A public flood relief fund was opened Wednesday afternoon to cover housing and feeding hundreds of evacuees. The fund reached 120 dollars within the first hour, with contributions left at the Municipal Office with G. E. Lewin or Morris Hay.

MacGregor's Oldest Athlete Palmer Dies at 81

One of MacGregor's most prominent citizens A F L Palmer aged 81 died peacefully at his home Tuesday morning. He had been in declining health but his friends mourn his passing. Funeral held Thursday at St Pauls Anglican Church MacGregor at 2 p.m. Interment in MacGregor Cemetery McKillops in charge.

Evacuated Families Now Living Here

Urgent appeal from Red Cross Headquarters in MacGregor notes many evacuees from flooded areas have arrived. Listed are Mrs. Howard Stinson and relatives from Emerson staying at local homes, plus families from Fort Man and East Kildonan. Guests include the Saunders, Irwin, McKay, McCulloch, Moore, and Turner households. More arrivals expected this weekend.

Local Students Win At Gladstone Festival

MacGregor send twenty six participants to the Gladstone Festival held over two days despite poor weather and roads. Evelyn Kennedy won the Gladstone W. Cup in Grades 1 V with 83 marks in recitation of verse.

Local Talent Shines At Annex Concert Evening

A capacity crowd enjoyed the Annex Concert held Wednesday April 26 with Miss Huget and Miss Lament leading grade group performances. The program featured Indian dance, high school choir numbers, a humorous skit by the Fotheringhams, a Twenty Questions segment, a Y.S. one act play How Story Grew, and a minstrel showcase.

Mrs Sophia Gilbert Dies in Portage at 88

Mrs Sophia Gilbert of Katrime widow of Samuel Gilbert died Wednesday morning in Portage General Hospital at the age of 88. She had been ill all winter and a patient for a week. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 30 p.m. in Katrime Community Hall, with McKillop home in charge.
