Barley Smuts Explain Distinct Smut Types and Control
Three barley smut species attack grain. True loose smut spreads by spores in heads and within the embryo, making chemical seed treatment ineffective. resistant varieties or clean seed offer control. False loose and covered smut can be managed by seed treatment, while identification relies on spore germination and seed hull infection.
