No Jobs For Many Teachers In Manitoba This Year
Howard Loewen of Manitoba Teachers Society says about half of province teacher graduates will not find jobs this year. MTS estimates 1,200 positions exist but 700 go to returning teachers. 500 to 600 graduates may remain jobless. University of Manitoba’s Hedley predicts last year’s woes may persist. A new committee of teachers, trustees, superintendents and education officials studies this over-supply, but Loewen doubts its impact this year.

McKellar says Manitoba law broken over deputy health post
Conservative Earl McKellar accuses the Manitoba government of appointing a deputy minister of health who is not a doctor. He alleges neither the current deputy Hans Schneider nor former Andre Ouellette are physicians. The government reportedly sought to alter the law to permit a layman, but the bill was withdrawn. Health Minister Rene Toupin clarifies that Schneider is deputy minister of the department, not deputy minister of health.
