Indian Hunting Rights Denied by Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Canada ruled Monday that Prairie Indians may not ignore the 1917 Migratory Birds Convention. In a 5-0-4 decision, the court held the 1929 Canada Manitoba agreement granting year round hunting did not repeal the international convention. Strong dissents were offered by Chief Justice Cartwright and Justice Hall.

About 30 teenagers marched peacefully in London Ontario to protest seal hunt methods allegedly used in the Gulf of St Lawrence. The Daily Mirror claims brutalities occur and reports a petition bearing 2000 signatures was presented to Canadian officials. The demonstrators, from pop music fan clubs, walked from a western London district to Canada House on Trafalgar Square in the city core.

Golf club accident kills Toronto man during tournament
Alan Williams, 24, of Toronto, in his first golf game, died after a club struck behind the left ear during a company tournament. Police said the driver belonging to Carl Maloney, 28, of Scarborough, caused the fatal blow. Autopsy cited brain hemorrhage as the cause.
