MacGregor Matmen Show Strength In Big Meet

MacGregor High wrestlers burst from a seven weight-class entry at Festival Du Voyageur with Tim Hoeppner leading early pins and Brent Tomehuk clinching the 155 pound title. Laurence Hepner captured Manitoba heavyweight honours, while the team posted 145 points, far ahead of rivals.

Community Centre Project To Start This Year

Over 100 attend the joint MacGregor Curling Club and North Norfolk Agricultural Society meeting. A plan to dismantle the old MacGregor rink proceeds this year with funds from the Winter Works Fund and government wages. About $10,000 worth of salvaged materials may aid construction of a new Community Centre this fall. A general meeting Monday will outline plans and fundraising to complete the project.

Anglicans Host United Church in MacGregor Service

A large crowd gathered at St. Pauls Church MacGregor for an Anglican United Church service on March 14. Rev Harold Ritchie delivered a moving address on church union, noting slow progress but belief that unity will come as hearts open. Community groups from both churches attended and a social hour followed in the United Church hall.

Minor Hockey Teams Start Their Playoffs

Three MacGregor hockey teams entered playoffs last week. The 10 and under beat Carberry 5-4 in the first game and led 1 0 the second game in a two game total goal series. Mark McGregor scored all five MacGregor goals. MacGregor 12 and riders faced Wellwood in a two game total point series. Wellwood won 5-4. MacGregor won game one 3 4 but lost the rematch after overtime to 4 1. Bruce Nichol Bill Nichol and Robert Purkess scored for Wellwood as Mark McGregor scored for MacGregor at home. MacGregor’s lineup included Brad Lamb Brian Gilbert Tim Stone Dean Grove Wayne Klippenstein Ken Heavenamp Allan Boschman Bill Nichol Robert Purkess Brad Scora and Mark McGregor. The 14 and under finals pitted MacGregor against Carberry.

Summer Leaders Course At Gimli April 11-17

The Manitoba Recreation and Cultural Affairs sponsor the seventh annual Summer Leaders Course at the Provincial Leadership Training Centre in Gimli during Easter week from Sunday April 11 to Saturday April 17. It trains playground leaders day camp leaders and camp counsellors with topics such as childhood play drama quiet hours arts and crafts and teaching techniques. Preference given to those employed this summer.

Parliament Hill report outlines Canada’s oil transport dilemmas with two routes: Alaska to Valdez then to Seattle via tanker along British Columbia coast, or Mackenzie Valley pipeline across the prairies.
