The Freye election produced Wardan Taree defeating J Hulme with about 287 voters this year and 180 casting ballots on Friday. McCulloch led polls with strong Rosesndale presence. he has resided in the district nineteen years and assumed duties Tuesday at the Rural Board meeting. Charlton completes the other two year term.

Hockey Fans Forced To Bed In Portage Blizzard
Monday night in Portage blizzard conditions trapped hockey fans after MacGregor’s final game. As visibility plummeted, city officials opened City Hall and dozens sought shelter in Council Chambers and the Police Court. Hotels stations and waiting rooms filled as residents housed others for the night. A few hardy fans attempted the two hour return to MacGregor, most stayed in Portage until Tuesday.

William Bazuk Dies in Portage la Prairie Funeral Planned
William Bazuk aged 53 died after several weeks illness at St. Boniface Hospital. Funeral services were held Friday at the Greek Orthodox Church in Portage la Prairie with interment at Hillside. A full obituary will appear next.
