A wartime letter urges farmers to keep young stock and expand herds to meet postwar meat and breeding needs. It argues that many nations will buy cattle after the war, warns against selling at high prices, and notes potential employment for returning soldiers. Signed by Lieutenant J. P. A large turnout from Macgregor traveled to Portage for the Provincial Plowing Match. In a separate Police Court matter, Wm. Matier was sued by Wm. Carter for one month and six days of wages, with Carter awarded one month.
Thos Fletcher, awaiting trial for the murder of 10 year old G Rasmusson of Carberry, escaped Portage la Prairie provincial jail on Monday and is at large. He is about 28, English, 145 pounds, tall, with dark hair and eyes, clean shaven, and was last seen in blue striped overalls and a dark tweed coat. A farm laborer by trade, he may seek work on a farm.
