Austin news notes several incidents and events from the area. Hamilton Gilmour’s garage fire toss is recorded along with injuries to Miss Jean Durward. Social items mention visits, a Brandon trip, and a Portage Hospital discharge. A dance by Glen Frain and his Buckaroos is slated for June 15 at Austin Hall.
Mr and Mrs Thos Stephenson of the Arizona district celebrate their 58th anniversary on June 2. Formerly Clarinda Parkinson they wed in 1890 in Carberry and have lived near Sidney since. They raised fifteen children, fourteen living, with thirty three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
We extend heartfelt thanks to our friends neighbors Austin Ladies Aid and WMS for kindness to Mrs Beatty during illness. Special thanks to Miss Dyla Duncan for nursing duties and to all for messages sympathy car loans and floral tributes during our recent bereavement. Wm Beatty and family
Twelve schools from the western half of the municipality attended the second annual Field Day at the Austin Sports Grounds on May 21 sponsored by the Patriotic Club and the Austin school. Ideal weather aided a successful day of softball races high jumping and novelty events. Austin teams won several events with Edrans and MacGregor High Schools also victorious in their divisions. Rural schools Norfolk Springbrook and others competed in a lively program.
The Churches announce Rev. M. J. V. Shaver as minister with 7:30 p m services at Austin United Church and 11 a m services at Sidney United Church. Afternoon services will be held in Melbourne and Pleasant Point.
