Remembering James Eddie A Quiet Canadian Farmer and Pioneer

James Eddie 64, a plain living, honest man born in Scotland on St. Andrew's Day 1885, died after a period of good health. He migrated to Canada in 1910, farmed on the Carberry Plains, worked with Bert Calvert in Sidney, co-founded his own farm, and helped open No. 1 highway from Sidney to Carberry. He later served in the Good Roads Branch, Brandon division, and MacGregor, earning a reputation as a dependable worker who preferred quiet company and curling to public office. Survived by four sisters and a brother in Scotland, with a brother lost in World War I. many friends gathered to honor him in MacGregor United Church. Interment followed in MacGregor cemetery.

Double Funeral For Drowning Victims In Rae District

Rev C Morgan led services for two Rae District drowning victims at Brookdale cemetery Holland Manitoba on Saturday July 22. The Rae ferry tragedy July 17 left one victim still missing Linda Jane Graham 23 born in Kent England died with family and neighbours attending the service.

Roy completes modernized oli stand addition in MacGregor

A Winnipeg Cabinet Factory carpenters renovated Roy’s oli stand on Main Street with a new front and green grey Belgium Alprite and Ihrome. The first floor features updated windows and two doors. The top storey is green and white, the interior has modern furnishings, green linoleum, birch counter and horse shoe, red leather seating. Roy’s upgrade shows faith in MacGregor and district.

Weather Leads to Early Growth Boost for Crops in Area

Three week longer growth period yields better than average progress across area fields. Wheat shows some vigor while other crops advance. recent rain and now clear warm days aid haying, pasture, and grasshopper threat subsides with wet cool spell. Summer fallows remain weedy but planable work resumes.

MacGregor Seniors Defeat Shilo In Baseball Finals

MacGregor Seniors won 10-9 against Shilo in the finals at Shilo on July 19 with Collins Cobbe and Watson contributing key plays. The first final was rained out, Brandon then beat MacGregor 5-0 at Brandon, a game noted for Brandon’s stronger fielding while MacGregor’s Cobbe excelled on the mound. The third and final game was in progress as we went to press.

Friends Honor Helen Neufeld Pre-Bride Shower

A prettily decorated pre bridal shower was given for Miss Helen Neufeld on July 20 at the home of Mrs. A Weber. Hostesses included Mrs. Weber and several others, with gifts arranged in a basket beside miniature telephone poles. Neufeld thanked friends in brief remarks as the evening ended with a dainty lunch.

Rural in Austin will meet Friday August 4 in regular session. Village in MacGregor will convene Monday August 7 in regular session.

MacGregor Cubs travel to Morden for the Junior Hardball Tournament on July 19 with a 9 9 tie against the Morden Legionaires after a 0 4 loss to the Morden B Team in the opener. Sunday doubleheader with Earl Grey Juniors ends 6 2 in favor of MacGregor then 6 3 as Nelson Olson hurls a strong eight for Winnipeg club.
