Manitoba snowmobile safety rules include a 16 year old rider with a valid licence to cross roads at intersections or within 15 feet, remote areas exception, and night riding cautions. More than half accidents occur after dark due to reduced visibility. Amber reflectors on both sides at the rear aid visibility. Government Moves Into Another Grey Area
The Liberal government survived its third confidence test in a week as the Commons approved the throne speech motion, with Conservatives the sole opposition. Trudeau was absent for his mother’s death, while NDP and Social Credit leaders attended outside meetings. A Manpower Ministry bill aims to end unemployment benefits for workers fired, quitting, or refusing offered work, potentially saving over $100 million yearly, with appeal procedures to protect just causes. A second bill would lift the unemployment insurance fund ceiling, now exceeded due to high unemployment, a move Conservatives call illegal but the government defends under the act. Postmaster General Ouellet said the government will accept all terms of a conciliation board report in the postal workers dispute.

They claim many buyers lack qualifications and are licensed without proper safety checks, increasing accidents. The Safety Council forwarded the letter to Autopac for review. I. L. Permut cites thousands of unsafe cars on the road due to auction sales.

Ten Whooping Cranes Missing From Northward Migration
Ten adult whooping cranes are unaccounted for after the flock moved from the Northwest Territories toward the Gulf of Mexico. Ray Erickson of Patuxent notes the group had 46 adults and five young on arrival at Aransas. 56 were present when it last wintered at Great Slave Lake. If the missing birds do not appear in Texas, the population could drop by five. The flock has slowly grown since 1941 when only 15 remained. 21 birds are in captivity, including 17 at Patuxent and four in zoos.
