Bud Corrigal Heads Austin Hockey Club

The Austin Hockey Club held its annual meeting on November 9 naming Bud Corrigal as president for the 1971 season with Lou Carrothers as vice president and Glen Rands as secretary treasurer. Team rosters cover four age groups and a series of games at Carberry and MacGregor iden tify match results and players.

88 Were Placed For Adoption In 70 Centennial Year

The Children's Aid Society of Central Manitoba report shows 88 adoptions in 1970, including 76 locally and 12 through ARENA. End-year figures: 291 families with 1 013 children receiving services, and 478 children in care. A new guideline set was adopted for foster home operations and budgeting. A long term study on children in care aims to optimize group foster home use.

Midgets Split Victory Over Austin 7 5 at MacGregor Rink

On January 21 at 8 pm the MacGregor 16 and render's beat Austin 7 to 5 at MacGregor rink. Phillip Davey opened scoring early, with Brent Tomchuk Bruce Hay and Gordon Lye tallying as well. Lye scored three goals and assist from Phil and Brent. Only two penalties were called, one to Shawn Harkness Be. Next game scheduled January 49 at Austin.

Men's Bonspiel at MacGregor Curling Club February 11 14

Plans progress for the MacGregor Men's Curling Club 32nd annual bonspiel set for February 11 to 14. Four events with four prizes each plus individual trophies. entry is 16 dollars per rink. Substitutes allowed with name at entry. Buffet lunch February 12 in Memorial Hall 5 to 7 p.m. Entries close February 10 noon to Doug Noble Ron Telford or Robert Anderson. Ladies spiel scheduled February 19 to 21.

Temperatures linger in the cool twenties with a forecast of extreme cold. The men’s curling tournament runs February 11 to 14 and the women’s event on February 19 to 21. A note from Mrs. B.C. Peterson of Winnipeg is included. Milf is seeking good curlers while a skip is not interested in entering.

Local hockey teams kept active in MacGregor district

The MacGregor and district Minor hockey squads stayed busy with several games last week. The 8 and under team won once in two outings, defeating Macdonald 4 0 with Robert Wiebe earning the shutout and Stuart Thompson and Larry Jonason scoring twice. They then lost 2 0 to West End in Portage. The 10 and under and 12 and under squads also played at home and away, including a 4 2 MacGregor win over Brookdale with Mark McGregor scoring three and Ken Klippenstein one, and a 2 0 loss to Austin with Brookdale’s Lorne Fraser and MacGregor’s Brad Lamb standing out in goal.
