The Figure Skating Club held its second meeting of the new season on Saturday January 6. A blaze at the Alta skating arena and curling rink in Nanton, 75 miles northwest of Lethbridge, caused about 150000 in damage. Officials say an engine room explosion started the fire as 22 firefighters battled the 42 year old wooden frame building in 10 below temperatures.
Federal Grain Ltd of Winnipeg has purchased a Vancouver grain elevator from the National Harbors Board for more than 6 million dollars. The deal expands Federal Grain’s port capacity to 8.6 million bushels in Vancouver. The company had leased the facility for several years.
The Canadian Wheat Board announced an increase in the rapeseed quota from five bushels per seeded acre to eight bushels per seeded acre or a total of 400 bushels, whichever is larger. The new quota takes effect immediately at all delivery points within the designated rapeseed quota area.

The MacGregor 4 H Home Economies Club held its annual Christmas party on December 6 at 7 30 in the MacGregor Collegiate. Santa Claus arrived late and distributed gifts and candy. Lunch followed. Miss Darlene Berry won the hamper and about 60 dollars was raised for the Retarded Children Association. The club also held its regular meeting on December 5 at the Collegiate.
